Homework: The Curious Case of the Never-Ending Homework
Homework: The Curious Case of the Never-Ending Homework
Hello, everyone!!
I am Tharak, a student in 5th grade. Let me ask you a question. Do you guys get homework every day? A student-to-student question!
I get homework every day, even during the Dasara holidays! For those who don't know what Dasara is, check out my blog about it as well.
Now, I am going to investigate a question that almost every student has probably asked at some point: βWho invented homework, and why?β
Roberto Nevilis is often named online as the person who invented homework in 1905. But here's the twist: there is no reliable historical evidence that he actually invented it! Looks like our investigation has hit its first mystery. π΅οΈ
But why was homework created in the first place? The idea was to give students extra practice and help them understand what they learn at school. Well, that's fair enough! But I do wonder whether anyone asked the students how much homework is actually enough! π
Teachers say homework helps us practise lessons, prepare for tests, and become responsible students. And yes, it can be useful! But after a long day at school, wouldn't it be nice to have some time for hobbies, games, and family too?
Imagine finishing eight hours of school, coming home, opening your bag, and discovering that there's still more work waiting for you.
Wait a minute! I thought I was home for a break, not starting my second shift! π
I guess homework has its uses, but a little balance wouldn't hurt, would it?
So, here's a question for you: If you could change ONE thing about homework, what would it be? Would you reduce the amount, make it more interesting, or give students homework-free weekends?
Tell me what you think!
